Cupping is a therapeutic suction technique used across many practices. The suction acts to reduce pain and inflammation of the muscles by lifting superficial tissues, increasing circulation, and releasing toxins that may be trapped in the muscles. Cupping is found to be most helpful in dealing with tendinitis, tight/sore muscles, tight fascia, and releasing tension around scar tissue. Be aware that bruising may occur and although usually painless, can last anywhere from a couple of days to a few weeks.
Cupping dates back into history as traditional Chinese therapy. Athletes in a variety of sports (including a number of competitors at the Rio Olympics) have relied on cupping to help speed muscle recovery. Swimmers, gymnasts, track and field athletes, and others use this treatment to improve circulation and speed recovery.
Fire/suction cupping- The suction and negative pressure provided by cupping loosens muscles, increases blood flow, and sedates the nervous system. Cupping is used to relieve pain, decrease muscle tension, reduce anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, and even cellulite.
